Nigerian nursing student wins Best Research Innovation in London for turning farm waste into biogas

Naija is winning! A student just turned farm waste into a big award! 🇳🇬🏆

Covenant Awoyemi, a nursing student at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in Ogun State, won Best Research Innovation of the Year at the NextGen Innovation Challenge 2026 Grand Finale in London 🇬🇧✨

Her invention is a biodigester: it turns livestock waste from farm animals into biogas, a renewable energy source that can be used for cooking 🔥🍲

Her journey started at a national showcase in Abuja with more than 2,900 other participants. Then 70 candidates were picked for the grand finale in London, and Covenant came out with the award! 🎉
