Class, stand up for your teacher! Adeyemo Busayo of Lanre Awolokun High School in Gbagada, Lagos, has been named the 2026 Maltina Teacher of the Year, one of Nigeria's biggest celebrations of great teaching. She was announced as the overall winner at the competition's grand finale in Lagos on Friday night, beating fellow finalists from states across the country. The award is organised by the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, and alongside her prizes she will take part in an international training programme while her school gets support for new facilities. Punch reports that this is the first time the competition's overall winner has also been rewarded with a brand-new car, and BusinessDay reports that she teaches Biology. Yusuf Cariyat from Abuja came second and Ephraim Inyangudo from Akwa Ibom came third. Speaking after she became a finalist, she said, as quoted by Punch: "I'm grateful for the opportunities to teach, inspire, and make a difference in the lives of learners." To every teacher shaping the next generation of Naija, we see you! 🙌🏾
