On your marks, Naija! The fourth edition of the Ikogosi Marathon ran on Saturday in Ekiti State, with runners racing 17.5km from Ilawe-Ekiti all the way to the famous Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort, the place where warm and cold springs flow side by side. Runners from Plateau State led the elite men's race, and athletes from Kenya and Ethiopia joined runners from across Nigeria at the start line. Ekiti's own talent shone too: Adeyemi Tunde won the Ekiti indigenous men's race and Arinde Miracle won the Ekiti indigenous women's race. The organiser, Makinde Araoye of the Ikogosi Marathon Initiative, says 10 promising Ekiti athletes discovered at the race will now be nurtured, with plans to support them to compete internationally, and he hopes to grow the event into an international marathon in 2027. "We want to create a platform where talents discovered here can compete and succeed internationally," he said, as quoted by ThisDay. From Ekiti roads to global tracks, run am! ππΎ
